More of a Peak

Yesterday I didn’t exactly show you the sweater I was making, just the massive ball of yarn it was coming from.

this will not be a bra-sweater

Now that it’s grown enough that you can start to see the pattern and I can actually try it on, I decided it was about time to show you all.

cameraface, excuse the crazy hair, I was feeling lazy

This is what I consider a “mindless” project – easy raglan shape, easy numbers, straightforward lace panel, thick yarn and needles.

the ball baby is getting smaller

What do you consider mindless?

WIP Wednesday: Swimming in Lace

Welcome to the first WIP Wednesday of 2012! Yesterday was the first new design published of 2012 and Monday was the first Musical Monday post and I hope to share many more of all of these :)

Right now I’ve got quite a few WIPs which is slightly unlike me.  If I get too many things going at once I don’t know what to work on and so I end up working on nothing.  Weird right?  I know, so I try to keep my WIP count down.  One of my current projects is the lace shawl design that I’m collaborating with Bittersweet Wooleryon.

don't you just wanna dive in?

The yarn is Star Dust, a merino/silk/metallic blend and not only is it absolutely gorgeous to work with and rub on your face, its actually a dream to knit with too!  I’m not dropping stitches, the yarn isn’t splitting and its not shedding anywhere.  All wins for me.

I’m also working on some custom orders currently that I hope to photograph soon – a charcoal Ninja Beanie and an orange-ish hooded scarf.  I’ve got more designs in the pipeline but this is what’s happening this week.

WIP Wednesday: Still Truckin’

Happy Wednesday!  Remember that sweaterI’ve been working on in between projects for ages?  It’s still coming along, I promise.

Pieces

I know that the big day is only…what….3 or 4 days away and this thing is not done yet. BUT.  It will be.  I promise.  I’ve only got most of the last sleeve to do, then sew it all together.  And add a neckband.  And maybe block it.  It can be done, right?  It will be done.

Sorry for the dark photos, morning's here haven't lit up yet!

WIP Thursday

I know I (and many other people) usually do these on Wednesdays, but because I started my giveaway yesterday I decided to share some of my current works with you a day late.

Soft and Warm

I received some orders recently for a young family welcoming their first child into the world.  A blanket, newborn and 6ish month old hats were requested along with hats for both parents.

And Machine Washable!

As they’re having a girl, I’ve chosen a more feminine palette of yarns that are both soft and machine washable – definitely a necessity for baby items.

What are you currently working on?

WIP Wednesday: Revival

This week I’m sharing with you a WIP that’s been on the needles for… well, months.  Although, in my defense, I did finish it once…I just frogged it back a long ways and redid 80% of it.

I don't really mind knitting it, its so pretty and so so so so so so soft

The Malabrigo Lace project is still on the needles.  Yes, yes I know it’s been months and months and …yea I know.

Take II

This time around, I may be racing the skeins.  Much like racing the clock, I am trying to knit to the end of this thing as fast as I can so that I don’t run out of yarn.  Makes sense yes?  Think I can do it?

WIP Wednesday: New Stuff!

Can you believe it?  I actually have new WIPs to share this week!  And and and!  Did you notice that was plural?

Yup.  More than one new project.  Believe it.

Both projects are hats, both slouchy and both moving along quickly although that’s where the similarities end.

The first hat that I started is using some Mochi Plus that my roomie gave to me as a gift a while back paired with some creamy handspun mohair that I acquired along with three massive bags of other vintage and handspun yarns from a thrift store (massive Thrift Store Score).  I’m knitting it up in my Lacy Slouch Patternand although it sorely needs to be blocked, I think its looking quite nice thus far, don’t you?

Colors and Creams

The second is what I’m deeming the first of many Dread Head Hats.  A friend with substantially long and heavy dreads would like a hat that is able to hold his dreads inside of it while retaining the shape and not getting so stretched out and weighed down that it won’t stay on his head for more than the first day of wear.  To accomplish this feat I’m inserting a bit of elastic band into the brim of the hat, this is just the preliminary design, after it is completed and used I certainly expect some helpful critique to make the following versions better and better.

It looks nothing like this anymore...

WIP Wednesday: Never Ending Man-Sweater

I know I haven’t done a WIP Wednesday in ages and I apologize for having nothing more exciting to show you, but I have made some progress and feel that it’s worth sharing!

Although the sweater seems never-ending, it also isn’t due to be finished until Christmas which is why I started it so early in the first place and I am oh-so-gladthat I did what with all of the job-hunting then finding then switching and swapping, it’s been crazy here at SillyLittleLady Headquarters.

every stitch counts, even the few you can get done in traffic

I know what you’re thinking, “that isn’t much of a sweater to show for a few months of work” BUT!  That, my dear readers, is the front of the sweater.  Meaning: I’ve finished the back and am that far through the front, so…probably almost halfway done?  With sleeves and such, sewing and the neckband.

Perhaps I will actually have it done by Christmas…

WIP Wednesday: Still Chuggin’ Along

Happy Hump Day everyone!  And Happy 1 year to WIP Wednesdays!!

I haven’t done a WIP Wednesday post in a few weeks, but I promise everything is still chugging along.  And no, I have no new FOs to share either :(   Perhaps this Friday I will!  If I get knitting time that is…life has been busy here at SillyLittleLady Headquarters.

The sweater project is still going, slowly but surely and I’m now past the main body part and am knitting the armhole space.

progress on my lap with my computer

If the front takes as long as the back is taking, not to mention the sleeves, there is no way this’ll be done by Christmas!  I have to step up my a game a little bit.

WIP Wednesday: Some Progress and News!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

All of the projects I have going right now (3 of them! Eek!  I usually try to stay somewhat monogamous with my knitting…) have made some progress this week although not much to show I guess.

The yellow Malabrigo had a needle malfunction and is not being knit on straights.  I don’t knit with straights often, and they feel weird in my hands but I do want to get this done at some point in the future and this is the way to do it!

small waves of sunshine and clouds

The sweater is almost at the pattern-change point, and the new design is off to a fresh albeit slightly delayed start because of the other projects.

And this news?

I’m releasing the Braided Slouch Pattern tomorrow!  So keep your eyes open for the latest pattern from SillyLittleLady :)

WIP Wednesday: KISS

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I was having some difficulties with the Malabrigo lace project that I keep teasing you with and so I put it down for a while (“a while” means for an evening, didn’t even make it 24 hours before I had to pick it up again) to try and let the creative juices flow and magic to happen.

I decided that I was trying to make it too difficult and it wasn’t necessary to whip out complicated patterns and numbers to prove to the knitting and designing world that I’m capable and instead I’ve opted to Keep It Simple Silly (yes, yes, I know how that acronym usually ends, but, I mean, I am Silly Little Lady afterall).

today is the morning after the rain, can you sense that in the photo?

The shawlette/scarf is plugging along whenever I have the time to knit on it some and I gotta say, I am very pleased with this simplicity and awesomeness that is unfolding.  As I’ve mentioned before, this will also need test knitters sometime in the hopefully-near future and if you’re interested in helping me out, drop me a line!
