FFFO* Friday: We’ve Been Waiting For This Day

I decided today needed a longer title than your typical “Finished Object Friday” and the longer acronym for today stands for “Finally F$%^#*& Finished Object Friday”.IMG_3262

That orange sweater, folks, is finally off my needles for good!IMG_3276

After all that heartbreak and hassle (and fire), this sweater is finished and its beautiful.  I think the open front is going to take a little getting used to because all of my other cardigans (store-bought and hand-made) close in the front but I do love the way this one looks.IMG_3272

I love the color (I don’t know if I told you) and I love the lacy pattern and the solid rib edgings provide a good foundation for the rest of the pretty thing.IMG_3277

I did make quite a few mods:

  • made the size M with extra stitches that I had hoped would give me more front coverage – that didn’t quite work, I think my gauge swatch lied or something
  • I worked the front band ribbing before the sleeves because I was worried I’d run out of yarn (that didn’t even come close to happening, I have tons of yarn left)
  • I added more pattern repeats to the back to make sure it was long enough since it looked a tad short after my first attempt.

Have you finished anything lately?  Epic projects?  Quick knits? doesn’t it feel good to have things finished?!IMG_3281

WIP Wednesday: Moving Along

I haven’t had quite as much knitting time as I wanted lately (it’s awfully hard to knit lace by the light of a headlamp when hiking) but I am making a bit of progress on this last sleeve of that never ending sweater.IMG_4665

It’s moving along rather quickly because a) it’s a sleeve and b) I don’t have other projects going right now for which to put this one down.

I’m hoping to have it done sooner rather than later!

What are you working on this week?

WIP Wednesday: Progress on an Oldie but a Goodie

At Knitting Brew Crew last night I got to work on a project that has been waiting patiently for me to return to it for a while.IMG_4553

I finished up the first sleeve and sewed it in to the armhole, tried it on and immediately began the other sleeve. Obviously, this sleeve has not been blocked yet like the rest of the cardigan, I wanted to sew it on before I lost momentum on it AND I wanted to see how it fit into the armhole before I spent all the time and energy knitting the other one so that I would know what mods to make, if any.IMG_4555

I can’t wait to finally have this thing finished! I’m not working on anymore deadline projects until this one is completely done – hold me to that, folks. I hope to have it done by the end of June, it’s only one more sleeve, what could POSSIBLY happen? Amirite? (Or maybe I shouldn’t jinx it)

What are you working on this week? Long-overdue projects?  Quick stuff?  New and exciting things?

WIP Wednesday (on a Thursday): It’s Comin’ Along

I meant to post this on Wednesday but things have been so busy that, obviously, that didn’t happen.

The first sleeve of the orange sweater is underway and is moving right along.IMG_3971

The sleeves have become my home-knitting because they’re on dpns and I have to follow a chart and blah blah blah.  They haven’t been worked on a whole ton, sadly, but it’s still progress!IMG_3973

WIP Wednesday: Old and New

This week we’re back to the orange sweater!  The first attempt at a sleeve was turning out way too big so I’ve ripped and re-cast on for it and it’s moving along, albeit slowly.  I’m finding myself less and less attracted to the idea of knitting with dpns right now but I really want this sweater to be finished!  Anyone wanna knit ’em for me?  Just two little ol’ sleeves?IMG_3933

So that’s the main project I’m working on these days….and…maybe…another new cast on project….IMG_3833

But it wasn’t my fault!  My momma came to visit over the weekend and wanted to make this super cute bag pattern and I liked it too and we just so happened to “accidentally” pick up the yarn and the thing pretty much cast on itself.IMG_3834

WIP Wednesday: Racing to the Finish Line

Back to the orange cardi!  This one is taking a while but I knew it would and I’m totally ok with it, I haven’t been monogamous with this project either so that adds to the delay. I do have a self-imposed deadline now though – my momma is coming to visit weekend after next and I want to be able to wear it while she’s here!  It shouldn’t be all that hard, right?IMG_20140505_172636

I mean, all I have left is the sleeves and those are only over 64 stitches (I’m making the size large sleeves because I don’t want them to be too tight over my, uh, “guns”) and after knitting the body one and half times and then picking approximately 1 billion stitches for the front band, 64 stitches should be a breeze! Even if I have to do 64 stitches twice, and then sew them into the armholes…IMG_20140506_204812

WIP Wednesday: Tragedy Strikes. Again.

Ladies and gents, the universe is trying really hard to get this sweater to not be a sweater. what with the millions of stitches in rib at the bottom and the too-short body that I “finished,” ripped out and reknit not to mention the latest debacle.IMG_3541

Do you know what those are? Those little circles that you see in the fabric of my purse?  The purse that I carry my knitting in? Those, my friends, are ember burns.IMG_3542

I was hanging out around a campfire last weekend and saw a few little embers fly out of the fire and onto my bag so I quickly brushed them off and moved the bag farther away from the danger zone.  A few days after that, I was finishing up (for realsies this time) the back and “fronts” of my sweater.  When I was finished with the sweater I noticed a small piece of black lint on the side and tried to brush it off.

It did not brush off.

Those little embers burned a motha’f*@#$^% hole in my knitting. In my lace. In my lace that is knit with the prettiest laceweight yarn. It. Burned. A. Hole.IMG_3551

A small moment of panic was followed by a quick darning of the stitches around the hole and a soak in the sink to block out.  I’m not going to let those burning little buggers get the best of my knitting, no siree.IMG_3552

I don’t think it’ll be a noticeable thing when the cardigan is being worn but if anything else happens during this process I’m going to set out traps for the knitting gremlins who are stalking me and trying to ruin my really pretty sweater before it’s finished.IMG_3555

What are you working on this week?  Have flames ever found your projects?  Did you kick them in the face if they did?

WIP Wednesday: Progress

I got a lot of knitting time in this week and I’m happy with the progress I’m making on both of my sweaters!IMG_2833

The Bailiwick pullover saw another hiccup last week when I finished the back and was about to join when I realized I hadn’t done the proper number of repeats for the first bit of texture (note to self: read the pattern more than once, don’t think you’re “smarter” than the pattern) and so I had to rip back and redo most of the back but now the body is joined and it’s been smooth sailing!IMG_2835

The Atalanta is seeing some progress too although not quite as measurable an amount, it’s still beautiful and I am still excited to wear it!IMG_2838

WIP Wednesday: Back to the Sweater

I had this whole post written up about this other WIP that I had going.  I was going to tell you all about that project and the yarn and how it’s perfect. And then, I finished it.

It’s no longer a WIP, so I won’t share it with you today.  But stay tuned for new stuff on Friday, you’ll not have seen it before!IMG_2566

So, with that super quick project out of the way, I’m back to the sweater (not that my readers knew I was really away from the sweater…but I was, briefly).IMG_2568

I picked up needles this past weekend and the lace portion is going quickly with the decreased number of stitches and the larger needle gauge.IMG_2564

Linking up with Tami as always!  What are you knitting right now?  Have you finished anything yet?

WIP Wednesday: New Project, New Year

As I mentioned yesterday, I do have a new project on the needles for myself since I finished my holiday knitting and also my work knitting (I love my job, have I mentioned that recently?).IMG_2563

This is the wonderful wonderful yarn from my trip to the Taos Wool Festival and the yarn itself is Dyed By Darryl from Your Daily Fiber in Fort Collins!  A great little happenstance there, I didn’t realize where the yarn was from until we were in the process of purchasing it.IMG_2557

I’m making the Atalanta sweater with some mods, namely I want the sweater to have fronts.  I’m making the medium size and added stitches to the CO so that I can have about 4 inches of front in lace on each side, then with the ribbing, I hope it’ll come close to closing.

Linking up with Tami, as always!  What are you working on this New Years?
